The False and True Are One (2010)

THE FALSE AND TRUE ARE ONE

Premiere: December 2010
Z Space, San Francisco

The False and True Are One combines Liss Fain’s choreography with the spoken text of Lydia Davis’s witty and unusual short stories. An architecturally designed set of translucent screens and an immersive sound environment encompass the performers—the seven dancers move within the four delineated areas of the set; an actor is in the center. Solos, trios, and duets occur concurrently; the audience moves freely between these areas, seeing some aspects of the choreography from close range and others through the translucent screens. The False and True Are One is about different perceptions of the same event/thing—and the images triggered by this.
