Teaching

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
Join artistic director Liss Fain and the LFD company dancers for an intensive three-day workshop on choreographic process and performance. In this workshop, you will work closely with the company on learning, creating and developing movement and on building partnering. You will also learn excerpts from the company's repertory. Under Liss Fain’s guidance, you will develop the dynamic possibilities, personal expressiveness, and technical precision necessary for performance. This workshop is structured like a company rehearsal, where dancers work with underlying concepts and stories to create movement from prompts, individualize movement phrases, and incorporate the range of perspectives that affect the performance of installation works. Advanced, professional and pre-professional dancers interested in the company’s work, which fuses contemporary force with the kinetic precision of ballet and is developed through a highly collaborative process, are encouraged to apply.

Liss Fain Dance has two ongoing education programs that connect the company with both young people and advanced dancers. The company's outreach program, developed in partnership with 826 Valencia, provides opportunities for students from a broad spectrum of communities to combine dance and movement with creative writing. LFD has also partnered with Breakthrough San Francisco for a semester-long series of outreach workshops. For advanced and professional dancers, LFD's intensive workshops immerse participants in an intimate experience of the company's creative process for developing installation work. For more information about LFD's outreach programs, please visit the outreach page of our website.
