Here. Take It (2022)

HERE. TAKE IT

Here.Take It is a very personal work about crossing through internal boundaries, course corrections, landing in an unexpected place. There is a separation between the two sides of the performance space—a boundary, of translucent panels, the dancers cross through. How do you cross from one internal state to another? How do you move from sadness to anticipation?

In July 2020, I went to Pierce Point Ranch, Point Reyes, before dawn, to be in the fog and watch the sunrise. Here.Take It began that morning. Alone in the dense fog and quiet, I felt an ongoingness, ineffable calm, vibrant stillness. I have gone back again and again in the dark before first light. I started working on movement there; then, at home, writing the text. In the studio, the company developed the ideas and movement. It took me a long time to why it was important to me to stand, watch, walk, listen, in the dark before first light

The still and video projections in the performance are shot at Pierce Point Ranch. The audience and performers are surrounded by Matthew Antaky’s evocative installation environment.
